Company Information 

Discover Technologies Inc is owned and operated by Matthew Bennett.  Matt has been working on the plastic muscle technology for over six years and performed both his Masters and Doctoral research in this field.  He has authored or co-authored five journal papers, over 10 conference papers, and two patent applications on the plastic muscle technology. 

The company was originally founded as Discover Technologies LLC in Virginia in 2003.  In 2005, Matt bought out his partners and restructured the company as a North Carolina corporation.  Discover Technologies has performed one Phase I SBIR from the Office of Naval Research and is currently performing a follow-on Phase II. 


 Technology Overview and Industry Sector

 

Discover Technologies has developed plastic muscles using patent-pending technology that mimics human muscle and skin in their ability to generate motion and sense pressure. These plastic muscles have advantages over conventional technologies in their small size, light weight, low power consumption, and silent operation. Discover Technologies’ plastic have a wide range of applications in the aerospace, robotics, automotive, electronics, and biomedical industries. The company is exploring the technology in fuel efficiency of automobiles, aircraft, and ships, as well as applications in biomedical implants, drug delivery pumps, and mobile phones.
