Dr. Joseph Seriani, O.D.  is a member of the advisory board, and one of the pioneers  in developing the EyePOD concept.  Dr. Seriani graduated from the Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1974.  He owned controlling interests in highly successful optical companies: 20/20 Vision Centers of Ohio, 20/20 Vision Centers of West Virginia, 20/20 Vision Centers of America.  In 1980 he founded LensExpress (1981-1992) endorsed internationally by actress Lynda Carter.   Renamed 800 CONTACT in recent years, it has captured over 25% of the world consumer market for replacement contact lenses for over 25 years.

The EYEPOD Concept

The EyePOD is a (soon-to-be) national network of mall-based kiosks that provides consumers with new eyeglass prescriptions using digital imagery. After a brief video conference with a Doctor of Optometry, the patient can select and order frames and lenses from an online virtual try on site.

The primary competitive advantages of the EyePOD kiosk over traditional retailers are lower cost, wider product selection, innovative deployment of technology and convenience.

EyePOD will sell and distribute eyewear through franchised retail optical outlets (mall kiosks) to merchandise brand name fashion eyeglasses and frames. (Kiosks could also be placed at major airports or drug stores.) Frames and lenses are selected through computer imaging. It is not necessary for the stores or kiosks to maintain inventory. Inventory will be maintained at the centralized distribution and laboratory location. Eyewear purchased by consumers is shipped overnight to the customer from the central distribution location.

Company Information

CyberImaging Inc. helps the global optical industry gain a competitive advantage through the use of measurement and imaging technology.  The company has emerged as the market leader by enabling optical retailers to cost-effectively increase revenue, enhance image, promote premium products and differentiate their businesses.

Company Goals and Objectives: To create a new paradigm in shopping for eyewear (much like NetFlix redefined video rental) by offering the consumer a much more efficient method for obtaining a refraction prescription and greatly enhancing the frame selection. We intend to create a new eyeglass delivery mechanism and establish market share through rapid deployment.

The Company has a number of unique capabilities to successfully implement this product introduction.

  1. The parent Company (CyberImaging, Inc.) currently develops and deploys a digital sonar imaging system into optical dispensaries which allows the operator to create very accurate scaled images.

  2. An EyePOD kiosk with ‘sight screening only’ has been tested for 6 months in Bridgeport, WV at the optometric practice and scrutiny of Dr. Henry M. Berardi, retired Air Force Major Optometrist. The process and procedures for the refraction exam have been tested and documented.

  3. The EyePODVTO Web site is nearing completion and will be in production in November 2007.

  4. One of the co-founders, Dr. Joe Seriani (Optometrist) was responsible for developing the LensExpress brand of mail order contacts in the late-1980’s and created a new paradigm for selling contact lenses by mail order.

  5. We have experience in the optical industry and an infrastructure in place to support the needs of our franchisees.
